A bit of 70's nostalgia

Warning- you may be very bored if you're not as ancient as me and were not a teenager in the 1970s!

I need  to have a BIG tidy up in my craft room and was flitting about on the shelves the other evening wondering what I could throw away and I came across a 70's book - and of course ended up spending more time looking through books and things and not tidying.... Oh how it took me back to those teenage years of mine......those were the days!-and as a few of us bloggers have been remembering the '70s recently -here are a few of my memories from then.....

Yep,I had hot pants, and a pair of those holey white tights, and a pair of those tights that were plain and had holes all the way down the sides ..
.I had a 'Biba' poster on my bedroom wall

and god knows how I teetered around in these - and even went to school in them..
I remember driving my Mum mad by buying every magazine that was going (still have a weakness for mags!)and oh how gorgeous was Mr Essex ...

and a couple of my' fave' programmes.....

and who always had one of these in their Christmas stocking ?
I used to fall asleep listening to Fab 208 Radio Luxembourg under my pillow...
and who had a boyfriend with one of these - but wished it was one of these.....

and last but not least - who remembers this major change?

and here's Mum and me in 1973- I lived and died in that jacket and I tried sooooooo hard to get my hair like Marie Osmond's !!!teehee..not a good photo but you get the idea - blimey - 38 years ago,how old do I feel......

Did you read Jackie. I didn't buy it regularly but I read it if I could get hold of it.

The car I wanted was a Triumph Spitfire!

Such a trip down memory lane for you! I'm an 80s teenager, but remember preferring Swap Shop to Magpie (it was too noisy!)and occasionally being allowed to stay up late to watch The Professionals (Lewis Collins went to school with my auntie ... wonder where he is now?).

I remember some of this... I was 10 in the mid-seventies, so reached my teens towards the end. More memories of teenage stuff in the early 80's, but I still remember hot pants, trouser suits, t-shirts, ponchos, afghans, loooong haired girls (and boys - shock, horror!), stripey jumpers, platform-soled shoes (not allowed to have any myself of course!). I got my first pair of jeans in the 70's and they had embroidery on them and flared hems. My big cousins were right-on hip and trendy girls. They had mini-skirts, leather coats and all the right kit. They bought Rod Stewart's "Maggie May" and stuff by Mud, The Who etc etc...
I saw Swap Shop on tv every Saturday and The Sunday Gang on Sundays... Dr Who was scary (even though the monsters were made of foam and plastic!)... the Generation Game, the Two Ronnies and Morecombe and Wise were on tv... (and the Black & White Minstrel show, which would be sooo Un-PC nowadays!!). Some things were nicer then, others were not. But I'm glad I was alive in the 70's all the same!
Thanks for the Nostalgia trip!

What a great post - thanks for sharing - I remember it all tool

Yes Mr Essex was a hunk, but so was Mr Cassidy, and of course all The Osmonds.

Don't know how we walked in those platform soled shoes - tee hee.

Oh my goodness, I really need to get out my old photos and scan them into my computer to blog.

I always wanted a Ford Capri when I passed my test but ended up with a HIlmman Imp! I never ever owned a Ford Capri but we did have a Ford Cortina MK3!!!!!

Loved all those programmes too, including the Black and White Minstrel Show.

I wasn't allowed hot pants! Or clogs! I definitely remember that, and my mum thinking Magpie wasn't as "nice" as Blue Peter argh!

A fantastic nostalgic post Denise. You know how much I love them!

OMG I can relate to every one of those!! My fake fur jacket was lemon & I used to wear the Jackie 'broken heart' freebie brooch on one of the collars!! I also used to rum up & down the school stairs in 5" platforms!!...& as for those white tights with the holes down the side...mine used to end up with sewn up holes everywhere else too!!! Thanks for that bit of nostalgia! Hope the BIG scrap room tidy up is coming along too!!! LOL!!

Oh, Denise, thanks for the trip down memory lane! For the record, I did date a guy with a fancy car but he turned out to be...well...not nice. ha!

And I STILL wish I had hair like Marie Osmond! :o)

I found it really interesting even if I don't remember it myself! I was born in the 70s and didn't hit my teens till the late 80s - so my era is more like the fluorescent socks, towelling wrist- and head-bands, oversized t-shirts with belts.... Maybe I should do a similar post some time :-)
